Jazz on a Summer’s Eve

The schedule and ticket prices have changed. See the update here.

Falling in the gap between the Isthmus Jazz Festival in June and Jazz at Five in August is the Madison Music Collective’s big event of the year, their 2nd annual Jazz Festival, ” Jazz on a Summer’s Eve.”

This is a great family event held July 24th at Art in the Barn, a restored 1870’s barn on a hilltop overlooking the rolling farmlands of  southern Fitchburg, just 5 miles south of the Beltline.  This year the event kicks off with the powerful straight-ahead playing of trombonist Joel Adams, moves into less traditional territory with Randal Harrison”s group and JoAnn Pow!ers  Quartet, and concludes with Jackie Allen’s blend of jazz and pop. Jackie Allen’s group is worth the price of admission alone. If you aren’t familiar with them you must read why I picked them as my favorite jazz concert of 1998 (especially if you are a guitarist).

For directions and more about Art in the Barn see their website. Howard Landsman’s write up last year is also worth reading to get a feel for the whole thing. Last year sold out so get your tickets early.
