The MADISON MUSIC COLLECTIVE is planning its programs for Fall 2012 and we invite MMC musicians to participate.
This year we are planning a series of JAZZ ON A SUNDAY concerts and workshops featuring MMC musicians playing with a notable jazz performer from outside the Madison area. Already booked:
- Sunday, February 26, Randy Sabien String Quartet, Brink Lounge. Violinist Randy Sabien will perform with string musicians Chris Wagoner and Mary Gaines, and will be bringing in a unique string quartet featuring cellist Matt Turner, bassist Jeff Eckels, and guitarist Mike Dowling.
- Sunday, March 25, Laurence Hobgood, Brink Lounge.
Pianist Laurence Hobgood, long-time musical director and arranger for celebrated jazz vocalist Kurt Elling, will perform with vocalist Sally deBroux, bassist Laurie Lang, and percussionist John Becker.
- Sunday, April 15, Marilyn Crispell, Brink Lounge.
World-renowned avant-garde pianist Marilyn Crispell will perform with a trio featuring multi-instrumentalist JoAnne Pow!ers along with celebrated Chicago-based “free jazz” bassist Harrison Bankhead and percussionist Avreeayl Ra.
JAZZ ON A SUNDAY is jointly sponsored by Madison Music Collective and “Mad Toast Live” who also hosts the program and replays it via podcast over WORT 98.9 FM at a later date. The program consists of a concert with 2 sets. The guest artist(s) play the first set and the MMC artist joins in for the 2nd set. Then the artists participate in a 1 hour workshop hosted by the Improv Music Workshop. Rate of pay is negotiable.
