Towards the middle or end of the week I often post the highlights of the upcoming weekend, but this week I’m doing something different. I’m putting in a plug for the Wisconsin Film Fest. This is a once a year thing and is so rare and special it gets the nod over jazz this weekend. Every year I end up seeing several great movies not being shown anywhere else. Everything you need to know is at the Wisconsin Film Festival website.
If you have room to fit some jazz in between all the movies I suggest the Rand Moore Quintet Friday at Lilliana’s at 6:30. Rand does a terrific job for the Madison Jazz Orchestra but this is an opportunity to catch him laying down the beat in a small group setting. It looks like he has a regular gig for the first Friday of every month so if you don’t make it this weekend there’s always next month.
Here are a couple of cool jazz links I found recently. The first one shows a weekly report of the top fifty Jazz and Smooth Jazz recordings played on radio stations across the United States and Canada.
The Madison Jazz Society has established a tradition of setting up performance and education opportunities annually during April, in honor of Jazz Appreciation Month. This year, they have extended sponsorship of these opportunities to the Collective in a collaborative spirit, in the hopes that it will inspire even more appreciation of jazz in our communities. As the result, the following performance opportunities are available to any interested musicians who would be willing to donate their performances on behalf of both organizations and Jazz Appreciation Month:
I’d like some feedback on this. I haven’t played with the wordpress audio player yet, but I think it can be set to stream rather than download. This should make your recording more secure. Many of you have music samples on your websites, but this would really highlight your music. I was thinking of featuring one jazz tune per week. What do you think?
